Ainda que o Oscar aconteça no mês de março, a Academia de Artes e Ciências Cinematográficas divulgou os 15 documentários pré-selecionados para a disputa de uma das cinco vagas de indicação ao Oscar.

Os nomes que estarão disputando o Oscar de Melhores Documentários serão relevados no dia 23 de janeiro, quando acontece a divulgação oficial. A cerimônia deste ano será realizada no dia 4 de março.
